‘A family man’

October 24th, 2006 · 1 Comment · Irish Politics

One day he’s welcoming the provision of playground facilities in Kilrush, the other he’s enquiring (reg. required) about the date of an early release of a sex offender. Pat Breen is having a bad week. Today on RTE he defends (realplayer required) himself saying he’s a ‘family man’ and it was a point of information he was seeking. You know Deputy lots of men who abuse children and their partners are also considered ‘family men’.  I wonder how the Deputy defines ‘family men’…. catholic, straight and  otherwise upstanding???

Apart from the crime that the man the TD was posing the Parliamentary Question about, I do wonder why in this day and age our legislators are still doing this sort of thing with their time? The matter of asking PQ’s on the part of their constituents with relation to prison sentences. This parochialism is not a matter of law or the infringement of someones rights? Or is it??? I think that the Deputy’s colleagues will be a bit more careful before asking those questions in future.
