You may remember on the eve of the 2007 General Election that Bertie Ahern dropped a leaflet to his constituents looking for second preferences for Cyprian Brady and no mention of Mary Fitzpatrick. Cyprian got elected with only 939 first preferences as Bertie’s surplus went straight to him as directed and got him elected.
Today constituents received a letter hand addressed and stamped where Bertie asks for a Number One vote for Cyprian and mentions his name thirteen times. One mention of Fianna Fáil and no logo and one mention for Mary Fitzpatrick – ‘admire greatly’. I doubt the feeling from the Fitzpatrick camp is mutual!
Thanks to the chicken for a scan of the letter.
