Further reports of the meeting between Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and Irish lesbian and gay ‘representatives’ in New York last week have emerged. Of particular note is Gilmore’s question to those present about whether they had any reservations about him marching in the New York parade. Since nobody at the meeting was actually involved in the protest against the exclusion it seemed an odd question to ask (one of those present brought his partner with him representing no-one). They seems not to know how to answer. As suspected the grouping was put together by the consul general.
The full report in Gay City News is available here. Eamon Gilmore faces his first question session as Minister for Foreign Affairs this week, not sure if there are to be questions tabled on this matter yet. It will be interesting to hear what the Tánaiste said to the AOH about his objections to their exclusion.
