The round ups on Irish Election during the Lisbon Referendum campaign will begin in earnest in the next few days but for the moment I spotted this which I think is worth a mention.
Generation Yes as you may know by now is a campaign group aimed at young people and students and aims to canvass talking about reasons to vote yes. It’s a non party group registered with SIPO and runs table quizzes etc. to raise funds.
In what is one of the better political videos from a party or campaign group that I’ve yet to see in any campaign in Ireland, Generation Yes spend a little time looking at their opposition. Now a bit of spellchecking and proofreading would make it better but there are a few interesting swipes in there. I’m sure that after the initial skirmishes this week Generation Yes will be heading back to the issues. Campus hustings might be a bit interesting. Are there going to be more videos? Please?
Remember to send your entries, news, photos, canvass stories, leaks and gossip to irishelection@gmail.com. We’ll be more than happy to receive them.
I can’t end the day without mentioning the We Belong posters – as @Paulaeager mentioned today the slogan reminds us far too much of Marcus, the voice of Big Brother. For a group looking for a Yes vote they are spending far too much time in aesthetics and beautiful people than actually getting the message across. During Lisbon I you may remember the political parties spent too much money on pictures of candidates saying yes but not why – something that these Yes Civil Society groups said they were not going to be doing. By the way We Belong can you please define Straight Talking?
