FG issue advice to Seanad University Panel voters

March 25th, 2011 · Irish Politics

Email sent to all Fine Gael members today from Tom Curran, General Secretary of Fine Gael. Note the attribution of advisor to party on new media to Daniel Sullivan. Take a bow Dan! (Doubt you made any money like Ravi did! Or maybe you are happy you didn’t make any money from twolicy!) And poor Helen Keogh, vote for her because of her husband!

A number of Fine Gael members are contesting the Seanad Election on the University Panels.

We would encourage members and their families who are eligible to vote to for them in order of preference.

They are;

‘Now remember Luis needs to know what the story is!’

March 25th, 2011 · Irish Politics

At today’s EU Leader Summit, more great photos of the leaders.  Here we have Enda Kenny meeting Jose Socrates, the prime minister of Portugal who failed to get an austerity budget through. (Photos courtesy of the Council of the European Union)

But then arrived the Greek Prime Minister Papendreou, he was not bearing gifts but bear hugs.

All in it together looking for interest rates and support and the rest? Phew at least the Greek is not alone.  Wonder what Enda was thinking?

Update

The finished product!

Marc Coleman is a candidate for Seanad Eireann on the Dublin University Panel.  I believe this to be an early version of his election video and promise to put of the finished product when and if it appears.

‘Do you mind if I march?’*

March 21st, 2011 · Irish Politics, LGBT

Further reports of the meeting between Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and Irish lesbian and gay ‘representatives’ in New York last week have emerged. Of particular note is Gilmore’s question to those present about whether they had any reservations about him marching in the New York parade. Since nobody at the meeting was actually involved in the protest against the exclusion it seemed an odd question to ask (one of those present brought his partner with him representing no-one). They seems not to know how to answer. As suspected the grouping was put together by the consul general.

The full report in Gay City News is available here.
Eamon Gilmore faces his first question session as Minister for Foreign Affairs this week, not sure if there are to be questions tabled on this matter yet. It will be interesting to hear what the Tánaiste said to the AOH about his objections to their exclusion.

*not his exact words.
